Ney Votes To Protect Our Ports

Congressman Bob Ney (OH-18) continued his fight today to protect our country's borders and ports by voting against H.R. 5684, the U.S. - Oman Free Trade Agreement because of the loophole it provides to allow foreign companies to own our ports.

Earlier this year, Congressman Ney spoke out against a the takeover bid by foreign-owned Dubai Ports World to manage U.S. ports and co-sponsored legislation to require any corporation that owns, manages, or operates national defense critical infrastructure, such as U.S. ports, to be majority-owned by American citizens.

"Commercial or financial concerns should never take precedent over the national security of our country and its citizens," Congressman Ney said today. "I voted against the U.S. - Oman Free Trade Agreement today because it presents a dangerous loophole to allow foreign ownership of our ports. Whether its cracking down on illegal immigration, securing our ports or securing the safety of our airlines Congress must take measures that improve our national security, and I believe that includes voting against legislation such as today's trade agreement that would allow our ports be controlled by companies who are mostly foreign owned."
